In the credit sequence of the last episode of “Louie” it shows Louie CK boxing; not to ruin the three episode arc, but at the beginning of the arc Louie steps into the boxing ring and is pummeled by a guy in about ten seconds – after reeling and cowering from getting hit, he defensibly puts his hands to his face and falls to the floor.
In the credit sequence at the end of the third episode he is boxing, and he means it, he’s concentrating, and he’s fighting back. Through the fallout of his talkshow, the failure, he’s transformed. He’s gone from passive, from being pummeled, to fighting back and making a true effort. This correlates to an (almost) throwaway line in the beginning of the episode where he says to his daughters:
“If you wanna get a big thing in life, you gotta make a big effort. You gotta try hard, you gotta do things you’re not used to doing.”
It goes to show, one might suppose, that you are able to do anything if you put your mind to it. Like, really put your mind to it. You can change yourself to do things you’d never dreamed of.
Which is just something to think about.
